Key Tips

  • Dinner is late. Like, 9–10 PM late

  • Trains are great, but book AVE tickets early for cheaper prices

  • Shops often close mid-day for a few hours (siesta time is real in some towns)

  • Tipping isn’t expected, but rounding up is nice

  • Keep an eye on your phone and bag in busy areas, especially Barcelona

Very hot and crowded, especially in Madrid and the south. Beach escapes if you’re ok with the heat. August is a holiday month – many locals head to the coast and small businesses may close.

Fall (Sep – Oct)

Still warm though fewer crowds, wine harvest season

Winter (Nov – Feb)

Quieter cities, especially great for Madrid, Barcelona, Andalusia (Seville, Cordoba, Granada, Malaga) and the Canary Islands
